NAVIGATE15: January 18 meeting to focus on World-Class Curriculum

In the second in a series of seven community engagement sessions, the Navigate15 Facilitating Team will host a discussion on what District 15 might do to ensure it is delivering a world-class curriculum.

  • How can the District improve the performance of all students and prepare them for future 21st Century endeavors?
  • What academic programs and services do exemplary school districts provide?
  • In what areas can District 15 improve?

These are just a few questions that participants will discuss during the meeting, which will be held Tuesday, January 18, from 7-9 p.m. in the cafeteria at Winston Campus, 900 E. Palatine Road in Palatine.

Mary Zarr, assistant superintendent for curriculum, special services, and school improvement, will present important information on student performance and explain what steps school districts must take to achieve academic excellence. Participants in the Navigate15 process will offer their ideas and suggestions following her presentation.

More than 150 residents, parents, and staff members participated in the first Navigate15 meeting, which November 16. The District has extended an open invitation to all residents to participate in this initiative designed to help shape the future direction of District 15. District 15 parents Joan Scovic and Cannon Koo are the co-chairs of the Navigate15 Facilitating Team, and they are also encouraging the entire District 15 community to participate in what they consider a key meeting with regards to future planning. District residents are encouraged to attend any or all of the community engagement sessions.

Throughout this community engagement process, participants will study and discuss topics such as student achievement, demographics, facilities, finances, and technology. Feedback gained from these meetings will be used to prepare recommendations to the Board of Education in August 2011.

Five more Navigate15 meetings will be held following the January 18 session:

  • February 15—Our Students: Demographics, class sizes, and what they mean for learning.
  • March 29—Technology: What is expected for the 21st Century?
  • April 25—Facilities: What are the District's needs, and how are they affected by population growth? 
  • May 31—Finances: School Finances 101 and planning for the future
  • June 21—Final Recommendations: Creating an Executive Summary for the Board of Education

All Navigate15 community engagement sessions will be held from 7-9 p.m. in the cafeteria at Winston Campus, 900 E. Palatine Road in Palatine.
