Schaumburg High School alumna Lisa Czepiel knew she enjoyed her time in District 211 and is proving it through her commitment to the upcoming 5k race hosted by the District 211 Foundation.

Czepiel, who is the Inaugural Fun(d) Run 5k Run/Walk Race director, is encouraging alumni and community members to get involved with the District 211 Foundation event. As an avid runner, she thought this would be a great way to get involved as an alumna of District 211 and help support current students.

“I thought this would be a great opportunity to give back to the students and staff, and support the foundation,” Czepiel said. “As a student, I didn’t know if anything like the Foundation existed, so the hope is to bring awareness to the community about the Foundation and the support that they provide for students.”

Race participants will receive a goodie bag with a free t-shirt, as well as attend a post-race party with an awards ceremony and food. There will be awards for the top finishers and age group categories. The post-race party will be sponsored by Mariano’s Fresh Market Palatine, and other race sponsors include BMO Harris Bank, Dick Pond Athletics, and OPTO International, Inc.

In addition to creating awareness about the Foundation, Czepiel said there may even be a surprise in store for the school that shows the most support on race day, as well as other fun activities at the post-race party.

“What the Foundation does for students is something that we will be communicating at the awards and post-race party,” she said. “The kids are our future, and if they have great projects and use opportunities through the Foundation to be leaders in our community, I am a big believer that we need to support that as much as we can.”
