Traffic signals typically provide enough flashing DON'T WALK time for a person to cross the street at a walking pace of four feet per second or more.
In some cases it may be best for pedestrians to wait for the next green light and WALK signal before crossing just to be safe.
The following are some helpful reminders:
- Pedestrians must be diligent about watching the crosswalk signal and following the WALK and DON’T WALK instructions.
- Pedestrians should use crosswalks when available and look both ways when entering the crosswalk.
- Pedestrians should wear light colored or reflective clothing when going out for a walk after dark.
- Drivers should look both ways before driving through a crosswalk.
Drivers stopping for a traffic signal or stop sign should stop before the crosswalk pavement marking.
