State Sen. Matt Murphy To Seek Re-Election

Republican Matt Murphy will seek re-election in 2012 the newly-drawn 27th District.

Republican State Senator Matt Murphy announced that he will seek re-election in 2012 in the 27th District.

Murphy said the state's budget woes and taxes remain at the forefront of his priorities. The state has consistently been late with payments to local school districts and late in disbursing tax revenue back to the village of Palatine.

"There's no question that those who rely on state government funding, are looking at the state to deliver on what it has promised and in a timely fashion," Murphy said.

Murphy's district was changed a bit by realignment. The district used to include about half of Barrington Township, that no longer is the case. The district also used to include part of Buffalo Grove and Wheeling.

The newly drawn district still includes most of Palatine. It also includes portions of Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights, Rolling Meadows, Inverness and Hoffman Estates.

Murphy's district was not, however, redrawn in such a way that he has to square off against another incumbent, as is the case with eight other Senate Republicans, the Chicago Tribune Reported. The new legislative map has provoked a legal challenge from Republicans.

Murphy has served the 27th District since 2007. In 2011 he was appointed to serve as the Senate Republican Caucus Chair.

"The issues that propelled me to initially seek public office continue to motivate me today," Murphy said. "My goal in Springfield is to make it easier for people to get the best job they can by encouraging economic growth in our community through lower taxes and less debt and spending."
