Poll: Does Mitt Romney's Choice Of Paul Ryan For Vice President Change Your Vote?

Mitt Romney announced Saturday that his choice for vice president is Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan.

Mitt Romney announced Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Janesville) .

Ryan, 42, has served in the House of Representatives for 14 years, currently chairing the House Budget Committee and serving on the House Ways and Means Committee. In January 2010, Ryan gained attention nationwide after unveiling his "Roadmap for America’s Future."

The New Yorker called the choice of Ryan the "most daring choice of Romney's political career." The magazine noted that the selection of Ryan was a deliberate change in direction for Romney and a move meant to make the campaign into more of an ideological debate.

Romney has been trailing Obama in key states and nationally in recent polls. The polling average at Real Clear Politics, currently has Obama up nationally 48 percent to 43.4 percent.

The comment was about wikipedia, not the facts...genius.
A.K. Not surprised ...I am guessing you have never listened to anyone...spell checked or not. :-)

Do you know about the "corruption, fraud and waste" in the TOP economic tier?.. No, I'm guessing you've bought the Republican lie that "The poor are stealing from you"...How sad and how stupid
Sully August 12, 2012 at 08:43 pm
Uh McCloud? Are you saying then that Reagan never raised taxes? Are you saying that he turned the economy around immediately after taking office? Really?
Sully August 12, 2012 at 08:44 pm
Then what was your point, Rob?
RB August 12, 2012 at 08:45 pm
Mac- Call me a liar. You're wrong about that too. Reagan raised taxes more than he lowered them. His Voodoo economics made us a debtor nation for the first time. Bush 41 raised taxes to pull the economy from recession (a traditional Repulican approach)and I lived through both administrations. I survived Bush 43 during his 8 years, but he is still the gift that keeps on giving....
chris August 12, 2012 at 09:20 pm
For someone who voted for Reagan both times and Clinton both times, I think it's important to note that Reagan did raise taxes. But not income taxes. He drastically cut income taxes. He raised taxes on gasoline to pay for a highway funding bill in 1982. He also raised taxes and tariffs via COBRA in 85. But during the 86 tax reform he indexed taxes to inflation thereby cutting taxes yet again. Really the argument is semantics. When you raise the corporate and upper incone tax rates, those increases are passed down to consumers. So regardless of whether it is called a fee, penalty, tax, tariff or something else, it means higher prices for everyone. Corporations don't pay taxes. Their costs are passed along to consumers. Reagan was a successful president because he benefited from having a large portion of "the greatest generation" still in the workforce and investment community. These were people willing to personally sacrifice for the good of the country. When he asked for something, they did it. Bill Clinton benefited from the dot com boom. It was a manifest destiny in cyberspace offering a whole new world of money making opportunities.
Bush and Obama had none of these things.
chris August 12, 2012 at 09:22 pm
Continued:
Bush had 9-11 and Katrina. Obama had the collapse of the western economy. And it's fair to say they were both made to pay a huge price from actions of their predecessors. The terrorist problems gained a foothold because of Carters well intentioned but disasterous foreign policies festering for decades and producing terrorist nations funded by oil revenues. Reagan deregulated some of the safeguards that allowed our economy to expand on empty paper. It's not the time to blame, it's time to be Americans united in one cause, to make our country last for other generations. Obama tried to fix the country, it didn't work. Romney wants to try, and if he can't do it, he will be out too. Name calling and derision isn't going to help. Now is the time to work together. You would be surprised how open people are to new ideas like the Affordable Care Act or Gay marriage when they have a good paying job and a decent house and cars, etc. All people push back when pushed down.
Sully August 12, 2012 at 09:43 pm
I don't believe in trickle down economics and I don't believe that tax cuts for the wealthy increase the employment rate. These job creators (at least today's) don't use their money to hire more workers, rather they fire Americans and move overseas where they can pay less and make more. They scream about sacrifice but they personally don't sacrifice anything for their country; they find tax loopholes and hide money in offshore accounts. The game is rigged in their favor, and it gets worse all the time. That is the reason for such income disparity in this country. When corporations are making the rules, who do you think the rules will favor? Why don't the Kochs want any kind of regulation and why do they donate to politicians whose policies will allow corporations to be more important than people? Reagan wouldn't have a chance in today's republican party. He'd never make it through the primaries. He supported abortion as governor of California and he raised taxes in his home state. He'd be disqualified immediately.
Sully August 12, 2012 at 09:44 pm
Yes, Chris, it is time for Americans to be united. ALL Americans.
A. M. Kelly August 12, 2012 at 10:42 pm
That "clown" in the White House destroyed this country's NUMBER ONE Enemy, Osama bin Laden, which is certainly more than Dubya, on whose watch he struck did, and certainly more than Romney was WILLING to do, since, as you remember, he said he "didn't think it was worth" a lot of money to "take down one man"...No, even though he was the cause of TWO wars and the deaths of thousands of Americans, Mitt thought the "money" was more important...Sorry, for guts, patriotism and brains, I'll take Obama.
A. M. Kelly August 12, 2012 at 10:46 pm
Dan...I think you have it wrong...The "takers" want to sit at home and wait for their Trust Fund and offshore account checks to come in.If you knew anything about the real wealth in his country, you'd see how silly "the poor people are stealing from me" line is.
A. M. Kelly August 12, 2012 at 10:51 pm
An "uneducated view of economics", LOL...Yes, I'm sure you hold a master's degree in the subject
Please...Your many previous comments have tagged you as a high school graduate at BEST.
A. M. Kelly August 12, 2012 at 11:00 pm
Chris...Are you a professional psychologist or sociologist?..If not, I'll have to ask you what criteria you are using to claim that "Obama appeals mostly to people who feel isolated and disenfranchised"?.
You see, an educated person can BACK UP his or her claim...Most of the Right Wing dummies here simply talk out their lower orifices, if you get my drift.
McCloud August 12, 2012 at 11:43 pm
You may not believe on trickle down economics, but history shows it works. The game is rigged from government mandating benefits in health insurance policies making premium more expensive, government eliminating underwriting guidelines for mortgage applications and buying back bad loans then repackaging them, government investing in empty shell energy companies like Solyndra (there's probably 25 to 30 of em) only to have the them all go bankrupt, government forcing people with only one choice to send their kids to school, government spending taxpayer money then printing it for future generations to pay back. Face it, Obama wants force outcomes not opportunity, and the result is that everyone loses.
chris August 13, 2012 at 12:13 am
Sully is correct. We are all Americans. It's of no use to beat up your seat mate over some past transgressions if you're both on the Titanic.
There is no way to legislate morality. There will always be those who succumb to greed. Unlike the working class, the wealthy are not stuck here. If you penalize them for success, they will leave. This is happening now as evidenced by the expatriate taxes and increasing net worth requirements for citizenship being proposed for new residents in various offshore havens. As a victim of pure greed and government complacency and complicity (I live in Sunset Village) no one would like to see forced ethics more than us, but it's just not possible. The solution is to generate jobs and financial stability so that people like me can have a decent income and avoid being financially trapped. There will always be scumbags that prey on the weak. The promulgation of cruel, soul deprived business leaders owes its existence to removing religion from everyday life. Gods actual existence isn't as important as learning to believe that you will be judged based on your deeds. Show me someone who's willing to do harm to a fellow human being just to make a better profit and I'll show you someone with no soul. Do not mistake the teaching of profits with the lessons of Prophets and you will live a much happier life.

it is very said that people do not see how this President has successfully divided the nation. Anyone whose motto is wealth distribution is not an ideological American but a communist. I have lived in Eastern Europe till 1977 and can smell a 'rat' from a distance. I love this country where I live now and hate to see what is happening to it. If this president is re-elected it might be the end of America as we know it ( as in Mayan 2012 end of the world).

chris August 13, 2012 at 02:05 am
I don't know if another four years of Obama will end the world, but I have learned to appreciate the warnings from people who emigrated here from Soviet block countries who say this is exactly how communism starts. Little by little peoples choices and freedoms are eroded in the name of social equality and in the noble process, the government eventually controls water, food, fuel and housing and then you are enslaved. And it takes a lot of pain, suffering and time to break those chains once shackled.
I'll take my chances with a government that regulates private ownership of those things while owning none of it themselves.

We need a thread on the insolvency of Illinois and how we went from the 3rd wealthiest state in 1911 to the countries, well, like I said we're broke. Can't pay our bills, can't pay our pensions, Cook county, Chicago, Illinois rate last or the poorest in every indicator of the quality of life.
dan arenov August 13, 2012 at 09:10 am
The business of the United States is business. That means trying to turn a profit. A lot of people are against this principle and would rather the gov't control all aspects of our life. The less decisions one has to make, the less effort one has to make to 'get ahead', the better it is for many of us. Many people just don't have the heart to compete; they'd rather have a country where the m.o. was "to each according to his needs"
dan arenov August 13, 2012 at 09:12 am
I'll provide a thread for you, John. Democrats took over Cook County, Illinois' largest county. They gave public employee unions everything they wanted, in return for votes. Fast forward to today.
Fred n August 13, 2012 at 01:07 pm
Democrats are stupid and the politicians know it. They pander to the lowest common denominator because those morons vote democrat no matter what.
Doug Purington August 13, 2012 at 03:45 pm
If I had ever considered voting for Romney (never in a million years!, his choice of Ryan ensured that I would never do such an asinine thing! Two peas in a pod wanting nothing more than the rich to get richer and the poor get poorer. Ugh! Neither has a clue except for their self-serving ideologies.
MT August 13, 2012 at 04:46 pm
If the predecessor nincompoop was so smart with his administration and his policies, why was he NOT INVITED to speak at the convention or was he not happy with Romney's seat assignment ?
dan arenov August 13, 2012 at 04:59 pm
Doug, do you know how silly your comment looks? "I would never do something in a million years, but since 'x' happened, it ensures that i wouldn't."
The good thing is that school starts soon. Hope you got your supplies ready.
dan arenov August 13, 2012 at 05:05 pm
MT, how many times have you heard that Bush is "so smart"? right. You didn't even hear that from conservatives. Good guy, loves his country..yeah. Mensa? No.
Now, how many times have you heard pundits on t.v. say that Obama is "so smart"? A lot. Even today you hear that kind of talk. So let me ask you why so many current ELECTED Democrats aren't even going to the convention? And why have so many Democrats running for office the last couple of years declined to have Obama stump for them on the campaign trail?? We're talking about a sitting president, MT...not a former president. And what 'MT' represent? The vacancy in your head?
RB August 13, 2012 at 05:38 pm
Sara has not been invited either. Unfortunately 41 can't be there (he probably should be there to try to wrestle the party back to some decently humane positions). Wonder if other sensible people like Alan Simpson will attend. As far as Ryan. Romney as a Venture Capital Executive has used all those CEO skills to pick his number two... Ryan was voted "most likely to brown nose" in his 1988 high school yearbook.
John Walsh August 13, 2012 at 06:15 pm
Last I looked, the US Federal Budget took on the costs of two wars, created a new cabinet level department - Homeland Security, and created the single largest new entitlement program - the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan...while cutting taxes - TWICE - all passed by a Republcion House, a Republicon Senate and signed into law by Geroge W. Bush.
And now that we have to pay for it, youse people want to blame the Democrats and President Obama? You serriously are missing who the real culprits for what you are complaining about.

David your remarks are head in the sand commentary. Unemployment up, apathetic workers, Debt doubled, Corporate cash on the sidelines waiting for new leadership to be invested in new jobs, Handcuffing regulation, polarized America "Rich vs Poor" nonsense, Non transparency, deliberate security leaks from the Administration, lack of World Respect, Obstinate environmental policies, continues to mount debt at the rate of $3MM per minutes, puts his head in the sand bout the future of Medicare and Social Security, and not a bit of common sense business ability. Pray for America, 4 more years of this President will lead to a great depression and riot in the streets...Yes riot in our own streets, not someone elses.
SHARON SANDERS August 29, 2012 at 02:48 pm
Perhaps you need a mirror. You might see who's actually doing the lying. You should be ashamed to be part of the same party that has thrown the smears, lies, and racism at Obama. He's not perfect, Dems aren't perfect, but the alternative is a hell of a lot worse. He inherited Bush's mess. Do you really want a country that has no regard for it's own people, where companies show profit by shipping jobs overseas, needlessly firing employees, cutting benefits, making most workers part-time independent contractors so they are paid no benefits, blaming unions for all their problems, privatizing Social Security, Medicare, public schools and more for profit. Do you really want a country where you can't walk the streets in safety because of excessive poverty and concealed guns everywhere. Do you really endorse a party that has no regard for women and their rights to equality, a party that will do anything to obstruct Obama, a party that hates gays and everyone else who looks, acts, or believes differently from them. So who is actually doing the lying. They're not perfect, but it's not the Democrats.
