Palatine Township Votes Not to Increase Tax Levy

The Palatine Township Board approved a $2.2 million levy for the general town and general assistance funds, and a $2.6 million levy for the road district.

The Palatine Township board voted earlier this month to keep the levy flat for fiscal year 2014 by offsetting increases in the General Town Fund and General Assistance Fund with a decrease in the Road District levy.

"The Palatine Township Board and Highway Commissioner, Tom Kaider, working together were able to keep the levy cost flat," said Sharon Langlotz-Johnson, Township Supervisor. "We held the line on taxes without cutting social services or impacting the maintenance of our roads."

The township board approved a $2.2 million levy for the General Town Fund (increased $58,550 or 3.5 percent) and General Assistance Fund (increased $19,070 or 3.99 percent).

Also approved was a $2.6 million levy for the Palatine Township Road District, a decrease of $77,620.

The township also anticipates IMRF (retirement) savings of $8,000 this year due to all four eligible elected officials not participating in the program. "That is a conservative estimate," said Langlotz-Johnson.
