Palatine Street Fest Kicks Off Friday

Street Fest will include family activities, live entertainment and local restaurants.

Billed as the biggest block party around, Palatine Street Fest 2011 promises to please every taste. 

Admission is free and the fun begins in downtown Palatne Friday Aug. 26 and continues through Sunday Aug. 28. Palatine Patch has compiled a .

“Street Fest personifies Palatine’s motto; 'A Real Hometown' where friends, neighbors and out-of-town visitors all come together,” said Sam Trakas, assistant village manager.

Streetfest kicks starts at 5 p.m. Friday and at 10 p.m. Sixteen Candles will perform the best music of the 80s.

On Saturday Aug. 27, the Cyclefest ride begins at 9 a.m. Cyclefest includes a casual bike ride through streets and bike paths in the village. Proceeds from Cyclefest will support efforts to make Palaitne a more bicycle-friendly community. Participants can ride in the 10 or 20 mile route.

Local food vendors include , , , , , , , , Palatine Lions Club, and .

Other events Saturday starting at 11 a.m. include kiddie games, a magician, face painting and a demonstration from .

Ralph’s World is set to perform kid-friendly tunes on the main stage at 3 p.m., Saturday, and Wedding Banned will take the stage at 10 p.m.

Sunday activities will start out with the Palatine Park District 8th annual Feet Fest, a 3K run/walk for the entire family at 8:30 a.m. The Feet Fest Breakfast will be presented by the American Legion Post 690 starting at 9 a.m.

Games for kids will continue on Sunday, along with clowns and balloons, the Palatine Public Library Bookmobile and the Sweet Pea Pet Parade sponsored by Foxglove Cottage and The Music Room, at 11:30 a.m.

The Jesse White Tumblers perform Sunday at 3 p.m., and will be followed at 6 p.m. by Beatles tribute band, American English.  

“Downtown Palatine Street Fest is an event for our entire community, and is manned by village of Palatine employees, friends, and its residents,” Trakas said.

Parking for the event will be free all weekend at the Gateway Center Parking Deck located at Smith and Colfax. For more information about Street Fest, visit the festival web site.
