MONDAY, JULY 11, 1:31 P.M.

The Palatine Public Works Department plans to conduct a sweep of the entire village picking up debris from Monday’s storm.

Matt Barry, public works director, said the sweep could begin as soon as Wednesday.

“If you bring the debris out now, you don’t have to worry about the size or bundling,” Barry said.

Public works crews already were working Monday to clear streets, do general cleanup and to remove hazardous branches hanging from trees.

“This was the worst wind storm of the year so far,” Barry said.

After the sweep this week, debris will have to conform to normal refuse requirements: No more than 45 pounds, no longer that four to five feet, and bound with biodegradable twine. During the sweep this week those standards do not apply – meaning residents with larger branches and debris should get the material into the parkway by Wednesday.

Barry said there were power outages scattered throughout Palatine because of the storm. He encouraged residents without power to report problems to ComEd by dialing 1-800-EDISON-1. ComEd has reported that more than 298,000 people are without power in the northern suburbs.
