Palatine Sinkhole Repairs Completed

Repairs to an underground sewer line and part of Hicks Road are complete. The southbound lanes of Hicks that had been closed are now open.

Repairs to an underground sewer line near Hicks Road and Dundee Road have been completed, ending months of lane closures and frustration for motorists.

A sinkhole formed in the area on July 23 after Palatine . The sinkhole formed after a sewer line located 30 feet underground was heavily damaged. The sewer line was 69 inches in diameter.

The hole formed under south bound lands of Hicks Road, causing lane closures in the area. The sewer line and repairs were the responsibility of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Great Chicago.

Officials from the district first estimated that the repairs would take a couple of weeks, however, damage to the sewer line proved to be much more extensive than first believed.

North Plant Manager for the District Sanjay Patel said work finished up Friday, Oct. 14.
