Palatine Approves Budget, Tax Levy and Village Contracts

The Palatine Village Council addressed a number of matters at its Monday meeting, including finalizing the village budget and tax levy, and awarding contracts for the Rand Road sidewalk project and yearly janitorial services.

A number of village matters were addressed by the Palatine Village Council at their Monday night meeting. 

They included final approval of the village budget and tax levy, and awarding bids for contracts to extend Rand Road sidewalks and to provide janitorial services for village hall, police headquarters and the Combined Services Facility, otherwise known as Public Works at 148 W. Illinois. 

Adoption of the 2012 Property Tax Levy: The 2012 Net Requested Property Tax Levy is $21,900,345, which is a reduction of $75,042 compared to 2011 with a total reduction of $113,000 over the last two years.

Property Tax Levy Fund Abatement for Payment of Principle/ General Obligation Bonds: $11,076,736 of the 2012 Property Tax Levy was abated to reduce the burden on Palatine taxpayers, according to village documents.

Levy of Direct Annual Tax for Special Service Area (SSA) #5: The SSA #5 Property Tax Levy totals $585,150 and is allocated for the construction and installation of a fire suppression system and street lighting at the Woods of Countryside.

Approval of 2013 Village of Palatine Budget: Included is a 2 percent cost of living increase for “rank and file” employees [administrative/non-union positions]. Management has an overall 2 percent allotted increase as well, those pay raises are awarded based on merit. Public Works contracts are currently being negotiated and police wage adjustments are close to being finalized, said Village Manager Reid Ottesen.

Abatement of Motor Fuel Tax Funds for Maintenance of Streets and Highways: In all six districts, the $1,436,470 will be used for the Operating and Capital Improvement Program budget, and will cover the cost of street resurfacing.

Contract Awarded to Best Quality Cleaning for Village Janitorial Services: The $69,300 contract includes cleaning and janitorial services at village hall, police headquarters and the Combined Services Facility, also known as Public Works, 148 W. Illinois.

Contract Awarded for 2012 Rand Road Sidewalk Project: The $49,953 contract is part of the ongoing project to continue sidewalks on Rand and Dundee Roads. This project includes installing a sidewalk north of Dundee to Capri Drive. The goal for the future is to extend sidewalks on Rand Road down to Hicks Road and east on Dundee Road to Route 53, Ottesen said. 

The next Village of Palatine meeting will be held on Monday, December 17 at Village Hall, 200 E. Wood Street.
