Lutheran Home Helping the Troops

You can help out the troops this Veterans Day by donating items for care packages.

As Veterans Day approaches, there is a way you can help those serving our country.

Lutheran Home is hosting a program called Operation Appreciation.

Through the program, community members can give donations for care packages for the troops.

Organizers are hoping either for items from an extensive list of needs the troops have, or for cash donations to help put together the care packages.

They are looking for several different items in four categories – clothing, food toiletries and miscellaneous.

The clothing items they need are bandanas, flip-flops, sweatshirts, sport shorts, t-shirts and white socks.

For food, they are in need of beef jerky, boxed cookies, gum, energy drinks and more.

The toiletries they are looking for include nail kits, aspirin, wet wipes and more.

They also are looking for many other items in the miscellaneous category, including batteries, Ziploc bags and music.

You can drop off items for the packages at the home, 800 W. Oakton St., or at other drop-off spots throughout the community.

Residents of Lutheran Home will be assembling the packages at 1p.m., Friday, November 8.
