Kirchoff Exit at Northwest Community to Remain Open Permanently

Concerns over safety with the additional traffic flow did not materialize, according to the Daily Herald.

A once disputed westbound exit at Northwest Community Hospital has gained favor among the community and the Arlington Heights village board on Monday decided to keep the exit onto Kirchoff Road in Arlington Heights open permanently, according to the Daily Herald.

The exit had been opened temporarily as  a way to create better traffic flow for cars and emergency vehicles but residents in the neighborhood initially feared the additional traffic could cause safety issues, according to the article.

The Daily Herald reports traffic studies showed only 2 percent of traffic leaving the exit traveled north into the neighborhood, and police said there have been no traffic accidents at the exit since it opened in August 2012.

The Daily Herald has more on this article.
