The American Academy of Gymnastics will be moving from Wheeling to the old Brunswick Zone bowling alley in Palatine.
The American Academy of Gymnastics has been in Wheeling at 280 E. Palatine Rd., for more than 25 years, said CEO and Manager Kurt Waller.
"We would like to expanded on that business and improve the facility," Waller said. The village council approve the move earlier this week.
The academy will use 18,000 square feet at 519 S. Consumers Ave. Waller said the gymnastics club plans to rent the remaining 12,000 square feet for another sports related use.
Waller said the bowling will undergo a face-lift and renovation to become usable for the gymnastics club. He said they could be ready at the new location by 2013.
He added that even though the 519 S. Consumers Ave. location will not be ready for a while there will be no lapse in service.
Waller said that the academy currently serves about 750 kids ranging in age from 18 months to 18 years old. The opportunity to move also presents the academy with a chance to update and upgrade their facilities, Waller said.
