Cook County: No Sales, Property Tax Hikes Despite $152M Deficit

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said there will be no sales or property tax hikes as the county is looking at an estimated $152.1 million deficit for the 2014 fiscal year, according to the Daily Herald.

Part of the deficit comes from an anticipated $52.5 million increase in personnel costs, $16.7 million increase in health benefit costs and a $12 million increase in costs from a move to raise the maximum age at the county's Juvenile Temporary Detention Center from 16 to 17, according to the Daily Herald.

The county will have to make some "tough decisions" to deal with the deficit, Preckwinkle said in the article.
