$900,000 in Renovations at Palatine Library to Begin This Month

Construction is expected to start later this month, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The main branch of Palatine Public Library will soon undergo $900,000 in renovations with construction slated to start later this month, The Chicago Tribune reports.

The renovations will include the addition of digital media labs, which will be equipped with iMac computers, cameras and microphones, and the consolidation of the children's collections to one floor, according to the Tribune.

This will be the first renovation at the library, located at 700 N. North Court,  since it opened in 1993, according to the article.

The Palatine Library Districtserves over 90,000 patrons residing primarily in Palatine and north Hoffman Estates, according to the library's website.

Wow, $900,000 for remodeling? No "new" taxes? Were "old" taxes used for funding this expansion? With families being asked to give more and more in taxes, can we afford this expansion? Did the library have to issue bonds?

Roman, had you clicked on the link provided, you would have seen found the answers to all of your "questions." Since you obviously didn't click on one link to find the answer, allow me to do the work for you. "The project will be funded through a combination of reserves, the annual operating budget, and contributions from the Palatine Public Library District Foundation and the Friends of the Palatine Library. No new taxes were levied for the work."

I thought the first renovation was the removal of newer sidewalk and hundreds of thriving perennials to install the automatically thawing sidewalk/entrance. Is it confirmed that those daylilies continued to the dump after being strewn on construction trash piles? What taxpayer dollars were thrown away, although the new walk is "nice."

Bucephalus- I am glad Roman is questioning the spending of the Palatine Library!! More residents should be doing the same! Luckily, Palatine residents questioned last years spending of $400,00 on heated sidewalks (did Palatine Residents want this?) and $50,000 for meeting room renovations that the Palatine Library CHARGES patrons to use. The Palatine Library received a zero (0) rating out of 5 stars from the Library Ranking System. The lowest rating possible! Many Palatine residents tell me they go to Schaumburg Library or Arlington Heights Library because they like it better and thy have convenient Friday night hours, drive up windows and friendly staff. Its is a shame because the Palatine Library was once a highly ranked library and an asset to Palatine. Thank you Roman for asking questions!!
