After the officer was shot a 41-year-old man took a woman hostage inside the residence in the 1900 block of Windham Court, near the intersection of Palatine Road and Arlington Heights Road. The wounded officer was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

The incident began around 7:30 p.m.

After a three hour standoff, officers shot the suspect and stormed the residence. Witnesses reported hearing three bangs. The suspect was taken to an area hospital and his condition was not known. The hostage was unharmed.
