Townhouse Garage Fire Sends One to Hospital

A fire in a townhome garage in the 1500 block of St. Marks Place sent one resident to the hospital Saturday, though the injuries were non-life threatening, according to a press release from the Palatine Fire Department. 

The emergency call came in at 6:14 p.m. Saturday, October 27 and firefighters were there within two minutes. They encountered a working fire in the garage of the six-unit townhome, the release states.

Firefighters searched for occupants, and were forced to open up drywall to ensure the fire had not reached behind it. Crews were able to get the fire under control by 6:30 p.m. 

The individual who was taken to Northwest Community Hospital is a resident of the townhome where the fire occurred, the release states.

Arlington Heights Fire Department and Long Grove Fire Protection District assisted Palatine in fighting the fire and transporting to the patient to the hospital. 

Damage to the townhome included the garage walls and ceiilings and smoke damage throughout, according to the release. It was initially estimated at $9,000. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

The Palatine Fire Department wants to remind residents to have working smoke detectors in your home, and to make sure heating appliances and furnaces are in working order before winter is here. Residents also are advised to properly dispose of smoking materials.
