UPDATED: The Most Dangerous Intersections in Palatine Are ...

Palatine Police share the top five intersections with the most accidents in 2012.

It should come as no surprise that the busiest intersections in Palatine also saw the most accidents in 2012, Palatine police told Patch.

Rand Road and Dundee Road in Palatine recorded the most traffic accidents in 2012, 37, while Algonquin Road and Roselle Road was not far behind with 34 accidents, Palatine Police Department Commander Mike Seebacher wrote in an e-mail.

Other problematic intersections included: Rand and Hicks roads, which saw 25 crashes in 2012; Northwest Highway and Palatine Road with 22 accidents; and Euclid Avenue and Quentin Road where 16 crashes were recorded in 2012.

Police cited drivers who did not properly yield as a cause for many of these accidents.

"One of the most common causes of crashes at busy intersections like these are drivers who fail to yield to oncoming traffic when turning left,"  Seebacher wrote in an e-mail.  "This is particularly important to remember when a traffic signal is changing to yellow.  In that situation, a driver wishing to turn left should wait to ensure that oncoming traffic is going to stop before completing their turn."

Patch readers also pointed out some other problem intersections on the Palatine Patch Facebook page Tuesday.

Danielle DePersia wrote that Northwest Highway and Plum Grove Road "seem[s] to always have issues." While Mary Ralston Stupen pointed to the intersection of Colfax and Plum Grove, saying it becomes an issue when people stand there "begging for money."

In the previous article, the number of accidents provided by Palatine Police was inaccurately posted by Palatine Patch and has since been corrected. Palatine Patch regrets the error.
