Teen Texted Break-In Plans To Homeowner's Son

A West Dundee teenager faces felony charges related to a June 19 Palatine home break-in.

A West Dundee teenager broke into a Palatine home after texting his plans to the homeowner's son.

The family was on vacation at the time, Palatine police Cmdr. Kurt Schroeder said.

Jonathan Hansen, 18, knew the family was out of town and texted his intentions to the homeowner's son. Hansen then made good on the plans by climbing onto the roof of the garage of the home in the 1100 block of East Anderson Drive. Schroeder said Hansen then forced a window open.

Also charged in the June 19 incident was a 16-year-old Palatine juvenile who Schroeder said assisted Hansen.

Once inside the home, Schroeder said Hansen used the family computer to log onto his Facebook page. Schroeder said he did not know what Facebook activity, if any, Hansen engaged in during the burglary.

Hansen then located the keys to the family's 2010 Audi and drove the at 45 S. Plum Grove Rd. Schroeder said at the store Hansen exchanged change he found at the home for about $40 in paper currency.

Hansen was charged Oct. 7 with felony residential burglary and criminal trespass to vehicle. His bond was set at $15,000 with 10 percent needing to be applied for release. His next court date is Oct. 27.

The juvenile was charged with criminal trespass, criminal trespass to vehicle, and theft.
