Teen Held Without Bail on Murder Charges in Father, Son Shooting

A Cook County judge has ordered a 17-year-old boy — who goes by the name "Monster" — be held without bail for accusations that he shot and killed a father and his son in a Palatine apartment last week, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Marco Lopez, 17, wil be tried as an adult and is charged with two counts of first-degree homicide, according to a Daily Herald article from last week.

Lopez is accused of shooting and killing Segundo Reynoso, 38, and his son, Luis Reynoso, 15. The father and son were found lying on the floor with gunshot wounds just after midnight Wednesday in an apartment at the Baldwin Green Apartments in the 1900 block of Green Lane North in Palatine.

NBC Chicago reports Marco held several grudges against the victims in the shooting and Marco believed Luis provided "information to investigators about multiple burglaries they were both arrested for."

Segundo had also allowed Marco Lopez to stay in his family's home after Marco's family kicked him out, according to a Friday article on the Daily Herald. That offer ended when Segundo became concerned over Marco's influence on his son, Luis, who belonged to the same gang as Marco, according to the article.

Luis died of multiple gunshot wounds to the face while his father was killed by a single gunshot wound to the face, according to the Daily Herald. Police said there was no signs of struggle, and neighbors report hearing between three to seven gunshots, according to the article.

Police and neighbors said there is a strong gang presence in the neighborhood surrounding Baldwin Green Apartments, according to NBC Chicago.
