UPDATE: Man Dies After Fall at Sunnyside Corp in Wheeling

Rescue crews spent hours in Wheeling Thursday attempting to rescue or recover a member of the cleaning crew who fell into a tank.

UPDATED:

Wheeling Fire Chief Keith MacIsaac has confirmed that the man who fell into a tank earlier today at Sunnyside Corporation, has died, according to the Daily Herald. 

The man, whose identity has not been made public, was hired to clean the tank, the Daily Herald reports. The case has now been turned over to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Firefighters and police from Palatine, Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove and a number of area departments are on the scene of an attempted rescue in Wheeling.

Public safety officials with Wheeling police say they responded to a report of an unresponsive man stuck inside of a 6000 gallon tanker at Sunnyside Corporation, 225 Carpenter Avenue. 

The Daily Herald is reporting the man is expected to be deceased. The tank is filled with methylene chloride.

The Arlington Cardinal is reporting fire and police personnel responded at 11:20 a.m. Thursday to the scene, and that a MABAS Box Alarm was activated to request technical assistance for the rescue effort

The area where rescuers focused on was at a white tank near to adjacent from a loading dock, the Arlington Cardinal reported. Firefighters were reportedly using an aerial ladder just before 1:30 p.m. to attempt and remove the victim from the tank.
