Evanston

High School Freshman Shot To Death

Police say a 20-year-old Evanston man fatally shot 14-year-old Dajae Coleman last Saturday, when he mistook the Evanston Township High School freshman and his friends for another group.

Wesley A. Woodson, III, of the 1700 block of Ashland Avenue in Evanston, is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm, police announced in a press conference Friday. He was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 27, appeared in bond court Friday morning and is currently being held without bond. 

“This was a retaliatory act upon an innocent group of teens with no gang affiliations,” Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said at a press conference Friday afternoon.

Palatine


A 46-year-old Palatine woman was bound with duct tape, tied up by two armed men during a home invasion on the 400 block of West Brookline Court Wednesday morning, police said.

“She was screaming and crying,” said Sonnia, the victim’s next-door neighbor, “I saw it on her face, she couldn’t believe what had just happened.”

Sonnia, who did not want to give her last name.

Police said the woman was tied up in the basement while the two men burglarized her home. The 46-year-old woman struggled for two hours before she was finally able to break free from the duct tape.

Crystal Lake

Man Charged With Arson After Setting Fire To Arcade Game

A Crystal Lake man has been charged with burning a large arcade game in his backyard.

Brian Van Scoy, 24, 1393 Parkridge Ct., was arrested on Monday and charged with one count each for arson, domestic battery, assault, aggravated assault, reckless conduct, criminal damage to property, interfering with reporting domestic violence and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Crystal Lake Police Commander Derek Hyrkas. 

Police said at about 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, they were called the single family home at 1393 Parkridge Ct., where Van Scoy was allegedly burning a large arcade game in the backyard.

Algonquin

Joliet Man Charged In Sexual Assault

A 69-year-old registered sex offender faces a new sex assault charge for an incident that occured in Algonquin last week, according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Office press release.

Lewis S. Jackson of Joliet was arrested in Will County during the early morning hours of Sept. 22 after local police said he fled the scene of a sex assault that occurred in the 3100 block of East Bend Drive in Algonquin, according to the news release.

Barrington Hills

Home Destroyed In Fire

A pile of burnt wood and brick is all that’s left of a home in Barrington Hills after fire tore through Monday night.

A Box Alarm was pulled for the fire at the home at 97 Otis Road between Brinker Road and Hills and Dales Road around 9:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012. Witnesses say the flames and smoke were so intense that it appeared as if a small plane went down.

Barrington Fire Department Chief Jim Arie said fire officials arrived at the scene within five minutes of the 911 call being made. The entire residence was completely engulfed in flames upon arrival.

Des Plaines

Man Sentenced To 4.5 Years For Child Abduction

A Des Plaines man was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for child abduction at a hearing at Maywood Courthouse on Wednesday, the Cook County State’s Attorney's Office announced on Thursday.

Jeffery Jewitt, 31, was a registered sex offender for two 2009 convictions for child abduction and child exploitation when the incidents in 2011 occurred, according to the press release. Jewitt was convicted of child abduction in August.

Jewitt approached a 12-year-old boy in his car in west suburban Bloomingdale at approximately 2:30 p.m. on July 5, 2011, according to prosecutors. Jewitt opened the passenger door and tried to lure the boy into his car. The boy refused and fled on his bicycle to a nearby country club. The boy’s father reported the incident to police.

Skokie

Medicare Fraud Charges Filed Against Health Care Facility Owners

Two owners of Skokie based Rosner Healthcare Agency, 4101 Main St., are facing federal charges after allegedly paying and receiving cash kickbacks in exchange for Medicare referral patients, federal law enforcement officials said on Tuesday. Also involved in the alleged scheme were two physicians who did business with Rosner.

All in all, federal officials charged nine people who they believe were part of the scheme.

, were both co owners of Rosner Home Healthcare. Also charged was Edgardo Hernal, a former Rosner employee who allegedly conspired to pay kickbacks to physicians in exchange for referrals of Medicare patients that enabled Rosner to bill Medicare, authorities said.
