Regional Police Report: Teen Assaulted Walking Home, Muslim Center Attacked and More

Park Ridge

A Park Ridge resident on Aug. 15 around 5 p.m., Park Ridge police stated.

Anthony M. Nugent, 37, of Park Ridge, was , a class 3 felony. Nugent was also charged with misdemeanor possession of cannabis.

According to police, the victim was walking in the 900 block of Home Avenue. At that time, Nugent allegedly asked the girl what she was carrying. The victim responded that it was a musical instrument and continued walking, police said. Nugent then followed the victim and allegedly began acting aggressively when the victim refused to show him her instrument. Nugent .

A struggle ensued between the two and Nugent according to police. Nugent then began spanking the victim's buttocks numerous times, police said.

Morton Grove

Though the physical damage is minimal after a , the damage to the psyche of those who attend services there has been severe. 

No one was injured during the incident, which occurred as 500 people were inside the mosque attending Ramadan services.

Buffalo Grove

 

A resident reported she awoke at 10:20 a.m. Aug. 13 and emerged into the hallway, where she saw a painting contractor working alone in another bedroom. The contractor .

The resident did not make contact with the painter, but called her mother, who called 911. Officers asked the contractor to get dressed and the mother requested he leave the residence, which he did.

Libertyville

A 50-year-old Bartlett man has been in relation to the accident that killed July 28, on Petite Lake, in Lake Villa.

The Illinois Conservation Police arrested David Hatyina of Bartlett Aug. 13, said Ari Fisz, chief of felony review for the Lake County State's Attorney's Office. Hatyina's bond was set at $1 million at a hearing the morning of Aug. 14.

Fisz said according to police and crime laboratory reports, Hatyina was under the influence of cocaine and alcohol while operating his 29-foot Baja Outlaw power boat at a high rate of speed. Fisz said witnesses reported that Hatyina ran over and killed Borcia, "who was floating in the water, wearing a bright red life preserver, and waving his arms in an effort to be seen."

Palatine

A portable toilet was set on fire Aug. 7 at Birchwood Park, 435 W. Illinois Ave.,  sometime between 11 p.m. and 11:21 p.m. Police . Police stated that there was "virtually nothing" left.

Crystal Lake


The t in McHenry County have been linked to crimes within the city of Crystal Lake, according to Crystal Lake Police.

Joseph Gerdes, 17, 868 Coventry Ln., and Andrew Wiegand, 17, 1472 Bridgedale Rd., both of Crystal Lake, were each , according to a press release issued by McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren.

The pair, both students at Crystal Lake South High School, allegedly admitted to sheriff authorities their involvement with five rural barn fires that occured in Crystal Lake, Marengo, Lakewood and Woodstock since May 29. One fire on Lucas Road was within the Crystal Lake city limits.
