Regional Police Report: Woman Charged in Murder; Bank Robbery Shootout Leaves One Dead

Inverness

Woman Charged in Decades Old Murder

Former Inverness resident Jacquelyn Greco, 66, was charged with arranging the murder of her husband in 1979.

Greco, of Crystal Falls, Michigan was charged with first degree murder of her husband, Carl Gaimari. Police said Greco was having an affair and planned her husband's death. Police said that Greco had a burglary staged.

On April 30, 1979, two men entered the residence and stated they were robbing the home. Police said the two men ordered Greco and the couple's three children – ages 13, 5, and 2 – into a bedroom, tied them up and locked them in a closet.

Before they closed the closet door, the men took a box off of a top shelf that contained two handguns owned by Gaimari. Police said that later that afternoon, Gaimari returned home and the two men were waiting in the basement.

Gaimari's body was discovered by the couple's 13 year-old daughter. He had been shot multiple times in the torso. The two guns were found near Gaimari's body.

Richmond

Man Killed in Bank Robbery Shootout with FBI

The Northwest Herald is reporting one robbery suspect is dead and another is in custody following a "shootout" Friday, May 10, outside an Associated Bank near Route 12 and Route 173 in Richmond.

The FBI told the Chicago Tribune an agent shot a robbery suspect at the bank. No Associated Bank employees or agents were injured during the incident.

Highland Park

Police Investigate Attempts to Lure Children

The Highwood and Highland Park police are investigating four incidents in the past two weeks where students reported that they were approached by adults asking them if they wanted a ride.

The first two both occurred after school outside of Oak Terrace School, on April 22 and April 24. The suspect was described as a white male in his mid-30s with black spiky hair, a goatee and a tattoo of a star on his forearm.

On May 7, a Northwood junior high student reported that she was approached near the Highwood Ballpark by a man in a vehicle asking if she wanted a ride. She refused and the man drove off.

The man is described as a white male with fair skin in his late 40s, medium build, gray hair and wearing sunglasses. He was driving a newer dark green SUV with a lift kit and large tires.

Niles

Cops: Woman Starved Dog to Death

A Niles woman checked herself into a psychiatric hospital Tuesday, just one day before she was scheduled for arraignment on animal cruelty charges, the Niles Herald-Advocate reports.

Debra Jaffe, 42, of Niles, was indicted April 24 by a Lake County Grand Jury for aggravated cruelty to animals, a Class 4 Felony, reported Patch.

Jaffe is charged with leaving two dogs in a Deerfield home without any food or water for two weeks. When police discovered the animals in the home on Nov. 1, they found one Westie named Joey had died of starvation, the Daily Herald reports. The second dog, another Westie named Sydnee, was malnourished and covered in feces. The dog was able to recover from the ordeal at an animal hospital.

Glenview

Man Charged with Aiding North Korean WMD Production

A Glenview resident and his father are facing federal charges for aiding North Korea in the production of weapons of mass destruction after being linked to the supply of weapons machinery to North Korea, according to a Department of Justice (USDOJ) press release.

Yueh-Hsun Tsai, also known as “Gary Tsai,” 36, a Taiwanese native and a legal permanent U.S. resident, was arrested at his Glenview home last Wednesday.

His father, Hsien Tai Tasi, also known as “Alex Tsai,” 67, was arrested the same day in Estonia. He remains in custody there, waiting to be extradited to the United States

Both men were charged with three offenses — one count of conspiring to defraud the United States in its enforcement of laws and regulations prohibiting the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, one count of conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) by conspiring to evade the restrictions imposed by the U.S. Treasury Department on Alex Tsai and two of his companies and one count of money laundering, according to the USDOJ release.
