Skokie

Woman Charged In Fatal Crash

A 23-year-old Skokie woman was , according to a police statement released Wednesday.

Hanin Goma, of Skokie, was charged with one count felony aggravated driving under the influence resulting in death, and one count misdemeanor driving under the influence. Goma was also cited for failing to yield at a stop sign and failing to provide proof of insurance.

The victim, Carter Vo, was out with his bicycle before being hit and . He was pronounced dead at 8:18 p.m. Vo was a student at Madison School.

Lake Zurich

Armed Robbery

 Lake Zurich police that occured May 21 at Ultimate Exposure Tanning Salon, 267 South Rand Rd., in the North Lake Commons shopping center. 

The person at the tanning salon was not hurt, Lake Zurich Police Commander David Bradstreet said.

Officers responded to the Ultimate Exposure Tanning Salon, at 3:26 p.m., for a 911 call reporting an armed robbery. Officers searched the immediate area but were unable to locate the offender, a press release states.

Algonquin

Bank Robbery

The Algonquin Police Department is investigating , 450 S. Algonquin Road. 

The man got away with an undetermined amount of cash, an Algonquin police press release states.

The man entered the bank at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, approached a teller and announced the robbery. He implied he had a weapon but did not display it, the release states.

Buffalo Grove

Deceptive Practices

A complainant reported May 17 a fake listing on Zillow for a house to rent in Buffalo Grove. When he answered the listing, he received an email asking for $1,100 in rent and a $1,100 deposit. When the complainant went to see the house, he found the owners there. They stated that they had already rented the home, and the listing on Zillow was fictitious.

Loose Animal

A small white poodle was running loose at 1 p.m. May 20 in the 1100 block of Courtland Drive. When the person opened his car door, the dog jumped in. The dog had a collar and tags and was reunited with its owner.

Unwanted Penpal

A resident reported to police at 9:30 p.m. May 23 she received a letter from an inmate at the Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg. She stated she did not know this individual, and the letter requested she become friends with him and begin to correspond. Police instructed the woman to contact the correctional center and ask officials to have the inmate cease further communications.

Lake Forest-Lake Bluff

Found Parakeet

A parakeet was dropped off at the Public Safety Building at 11:26 a.m. May 13 after it had been found at the Lake Bluff Beach. The complainant said if no one claimed the bird, she would like to be contacted to claim the bird. She was informed that if the owner did call her, information would be given out and she would have to surrender the bird.

Palatine

Vandalism

Five mailboxes were damaged sometime between May 19 at 8 p.m. and May 20 at 6:46 a.m. in the 200 block of West Golfview Terrace.

School Window Screens Cut

Nine window screens were cut on the south side of Paddock School, 225 W. Washington Street, sometime between May 19 and May 20. There was no additional damage to the building or an attempted entry.
