Power Line Fire at McDonald's Shuts Down Rand Monday

Traffic was backed up for about an hour starting at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Rand Road was shut down between Williams Street and Dundee Road due to a power line fire in front of McDonald's.

A power line that caught fire late Monday morning stopped traffic in both directions on Rand Road for the better part of an hour.

According to Commander Mike Seebacher with the Palatine Police Department, crews with Commonwealth Edison were working on the power line in front of McDonalds, 1576 N. Rand Road.  

The power line caught fire, and police were called immediately and closed Rand Road between Williams Street and Dundee Road starting just after 10:30 a.m.

Palatine Fire Department crews responded, the fire was prevented from spreading and crews helped to secure the situation until ComEd repaired the problem, said Deputy Chief Bill Gabrenya. 

Traffic was rerouted to Frontage Road, Seebacher said.
