Police Search for Teen Who Robbed Joggers

Police search for teenage suspect who robbed two runners in Hoffman Estates Wednesday, the Daily Herald reports.

On a bicycle, armed with what looked to be a handgun, a teenage suspect robbed two different runners on the Poplar Creek bike trail in Hoffman Estates Wednesday, the Daily Herald reports.

The two victims were running alone when the suspect approached them and demanded they hand over their cell phones. According the Daily Herald, the suspect robbed the first jogger on the bike path west of Barrington Road and north of Bode Road around noon Wednesday and held up a second runner about three hours later around the same area.

The Daily Herald reports, officers from several law enforcement agencies tried to hunt down the teen suspect, but the police search that included helicopter support was unsuccessful.

Hopefully they will deport his butt when he is found.

How do you know he's hispanic?

That's a great question Diablo, I was wondering the same thing myself. At this time, police have not released a description of the suspect.
Let's Be Reasonable September 29, 2012 at 01:50 PM
This thread is full of assumptions starting with Digs, who automatically assumes that whoever committed this crime is somehow foreign to this country. I think it is unfair and dangerous to assume the ethnic makeup of the perpetrator without knowing the facts--even if it turns out that this was in fact someone who is foreign to this country. Next, Diablo R assumes that the word "deport" must mean hispanic. Anyone who is not a citizen of this country is eligible for deportation--not only hispanics! Don't get me wrong, I am aware that the words "hispanic" and "deport" are highly tied together these days in the media. Nevertheless, assuming the facts before knowing the facts is never good practice. That's why we have trials and juries, and even that system is flawed in seeking out the truth. The issue I have with Rachel's comment is that she's praising Diablo R for making an assumption. As a reporter, I wish she would have been the voice of reason here. I realize that stereotypes exist for a reason, because stereotypes stem from truths. However, in this case there is no description of the perpetrator (not even their gender), and no solid information to determine ethnicity. We need to be reasonable and wait for the facts before we start saying that people need to be deported.

Goods points all, but they raise an issue; why do we not have any description yet?
