Police Continue Investigation of Fatal Rand Road Crash

A 56-year-old Lake Barrington woman was killed in the March 24 crash.

Lake Zurich Police are continuing to investigate a March 24 three-vehicle crash on Route 12 in which a 56-year-old Lake Barrington woman was killed.

Police said that Katherine W. Hoffman was killed when a 2004 Jeep Laredo heading south on Route 12 left the roadway and struck her. Hoffman was at a car wash and was outside her vehicle at the time of the incident.

Hoffman was the wife of Harper College Trustee Dick Hoffman, Harper College officials said.

The driver of the Jeep, a 40-year-old man from Chatsworth who police have not identified, also struck Hoffman’s Volkswagen GTI, pushing that vehicle into an unoccupied 2010 Acura SUV, said Lake Zurich Police Commander Kevin Finlon.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Route 12 and Honey Lake Road,

No charges have been filed against the driver and the incident still is under investigation, Finlon said.

“This will take a few weeks with blood work and a reconstruction of the accident,” Finlon said. “This is our normal course of action for any fatal accident.”
