UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed by Metra Train on Union Pacific NW Line

A 64-year-old man was killed by a Metra train this morning.

UPDATED 3:15 p.m. The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the incident was a suicide.

A person is dead after being struck by a Metra train in Des Plaines.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that a 64-year-old man from Morton Grove committed suicide by jumping in front of the train at the Pearson Street stop. Read the full story here.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m.

Des Plaines Fire Chief Alan Wax said the fire department was on hand this morning but the victim could not be saved. The incident is being investigated by the Metra police.

The man was struck by Union Pacific Northwest train 632. That train originated in McHenry at 7:39 a.m. It and was stopped in Des Plaines for a time after the incident causing various delays.
