Palatine Stabbing Update: Fight Started Over TV

A dispute over a broken TV escalated into a physical altercation that left a Palatine man stabbed and bleeding to death outside of the Ports O'Call apartments.

Palatine Police said that during an argument over a broken TV.

Eduardo Guillen Tellez, 22, of the 1300 block of Baldwin Court, Palatine, was stabbed in the abodemen and the back, police said. He was transported to Northwest Community Hospital where he died from the injuries.

Police said the incident began as a verbal altercation when several individuals approached the suspect. The argument was over $40 the 29-year-old suspect owed Guillen Tellez. Guillen Tellez had purchased a TV from the suspect and the TV was broken.

Police were called to Ports O'Call at 8:07 p.m. Monday and found Guillen Tellez bleeding.

Alma Lopez, 21, said she was about a block west of the incident, preparing to cross Rand Road, when the stabbing happened.

"He just fell," Lopez said.

Lopez said the individual who stabbed Guillen Tellez ran into a Ports O'Call Apartment building. She said police arrived and surrounded the building. A brief standoff occurred before the suspect was taken away.

A woman who identified herself as a cousin of the man being questioned by police said her cousin was accosted by several people and acted in self-defense. However, she also said her cousin has had problems getting along with people in the past.

"He just has a lot of problems," she said.
