Palatine Salon Owner Alleges Police Misconduct

Mark Nelson, 47, owner of the Nelson Group, has filed a lawsuit against the Palatine Police Department alleging that officers slammed his head against a brick wall, the Daily Herald reported.

A Palatine salon owner alleges that Palatine police used excessive force during an Aug. 27, 2010 incident, the Daily Herald reported.

Mark Nelson, 47, owner of the , 39 W. Slade St., alleges that officers pushed his head into a brick wall while at the Palatine police station, the newspaper reported. The incident occurred after s observed Nelson making out with a 21-year-old woman in the front window of his salon after Street Fest.

The report quotes Palatine Police Chief John Koziol saying that officers acted within the law and within policy and did nothing wrong.

This article makes no sense to me. Is it against the law for a 47 year old man to make out with a 21 year old woman? Is that why he was arrested? I guess maybe the author of the article is using the term "make out" euphamistically. Don't get me wrong, I don't understand why any 21 year old woman would want to "make out" with a 47 year old man (however you define "make out") - unless of course he had a lot of money. Now maybe that's the crime they were talking about.

There is a lot more to this story. I understand Mark needed to have hospitalization due to the excessive force. I have known him for 15 years and believe his version. The proof will be the medical records and statements. He is a small person about 5 foot eight and 150 pounds. Not exactly a threat plus his demeanor is very non-violent. As far as the Palatine police saying they did nothing wrong, what would you expect them to say. Yes we beat him up so please sue us and win. If you buy their story good luck when it is you.

He actually assaulted a cop, interfered with a paramedic, and displayed lewd behavior with the young girl, receiving six misdemeanors total. According to the arresting cop, mark allegedly peed on the police officer at the station which resulted in the physical harm of mark. That does not make it excusable, but his innocence is not all that is hyped up to be.

Trust me he was not just making out in that window that night. If you want thrills when there is a streetfest going then he got his thrills. I wish him luck with this lawsuit but I tend to agree with anonymous. There is alot more than what is being said here.

I'm so sick of people defending people who get arrested for anything. Do you want to know what the probability of me getting arrested is? Zero. Or my mother getting arrested... zero. Anyone who is teatering close enough to maybe-sorta breaking the law is not existing in the same context as the rest of us. Seriously, people. You do enough to get arrested, and then you have some complaint after that? I mean, let's break it down to objective reality. Society decided that your behavior was so dangerous that our police had to physically drag you to a cage. Then, while you were in your cage something you didn't like happened? What are we talking about here?!! Not only do I not care that he got is head split, but keep this guy away from my kids and my neighbors until his probability of getting arrested is zero. Jeez.

Actually Double D .. in god we trust. You on the other hand have no credit here, and to imply this guy is guilty of ANYTHING he couldn't be convicted of in court is simply slanderous.
End of story......

Bill you are a "Wizard"!!
This guy was convicted of something equal to littering. While being harassed on his private property. Yet you are justifying any injury that my be inflicted on any citizen while in custody prior to his day in court? Wow Black booted thuggery at its finest. I guess you think "if we have cops, why do we need judges?" Not to mention if this happened as the officer implies in the window at street fest at 10:15, when there were thousands of people there? Shouldn't we have tons of witnesses? But instead there is not a single one!

You know Kathryn , Bill, Double D.... Its odd how much mud you are trying to slinging on this guy for some petty charge stemming from him being harassed in his own business. While this CONVICTED DIRTBAG gets TWO posts. Someone seems scared and i don't think is Mr. Nelson. Everyone Deserves their day in court. Not just the police.

He was not even charged with anything lewd or sexual! Where did you even get that? If you heard that second hand you should question their motives....However I'm glad to hear the officer take responsibility ....." According to the arresting cop, mark allegedly peed on the police officer at the station which resulted in the physical harm of mark. "..... lol

I just got pulled over and harassed by the Palatine Police department for avoiding a road stop. They tried to bully me and accuse me of smoking pot. The one cop tried to search my car and a accuse me of smoking pot. I was trying to be civil with all three of them and they ganged up on me and yelling at me. I have never seen anything like this before. Something needs to be done about the corruption there.
