Palatine Police Blotter: Windows Smashed at Area Parks, Laptop Stolen at Library

Criminal Damage to Property 

The front passenger window of a 2005 Nissan sedan was smashed at Community Park, 262 E. Palatine Rd. on Aug. 31 between 5 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. A GPS mounted on the dashboard was untouched during the incident. 

The tires on two vehicles were punctured while parked on the street in the 200 block of W. Ridge Tr. sometime between Aug. 30 at 5:15 p.m. and Aug. 31 at 12:30 a.m. Both were front passenger sides tires, on a 2004 Honda SUV and a 2003 Acura sedan. Damage was estimated at $300 per vehicle.

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

Two vehicles were burglarized in the Twin Lakes Recreational Area parking lot, 1200 Twin Lakes Dr. on Aug. 30 between 10 a.m. and 10:40 a.m. The driver's side rear window was smashed on a 2009 Mercury SUV and a black cloth wallet containing a driver's license, bank cards and a passport was taken. The driver's window was smashed on a 2007 Mitsubishi SUV, and a beige purse containing a checkbook was taken. 

The driver's side rear window was smashed on a 2004 Nissan SUV in the parking lot at Osage Park, 2076 N. Old Hicks Rd. on Aug. 31 between 4:45 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. A black leather purse was taken from the floor of the vehicle, which contained bank cards, a driver's license, $20 in cash and other miscellaneous items. 

Two vehicles were burglarized in the Community Park parking lot, 262 E. Palatine Rd. on Aug. 31 between 5 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. The rear passenger window of a 2005 Honda SUV was smashed, and a Rebecca Minkoff wallet ($125), a driver's license, insurance cards, bank cards, $55 in cash and miscellaneous gift cards were taken. The rear passenger window of a 2011 BMW SUV also was smashed, and taken as a green iPad mini case. 

A 1987 Dodge van was entered as it was parked in the 1400 block of N. Smith St. sometime between Sept. 1 at 11 p.m. and Sept. 2 at 4:45 a.m. Taken was a Garmin GPS ($500). A pair of prescription sunglasses also were taken from the center console. 

A 2004 Dodge SUV was burglarized as it was parked in a private driveway in the 1200 block of N. Evergreen Dr. sometime between Sept. 1 at 10 p.m. and Sept. 2 at 9 a.m. Taken was a vehicle registration card, insurance card and $1,000 in various tools. 

A Jeep SUV was burglarized as it was parked in a private driveway in the 1300 block of N. Evergreen Dr. sometime between Sept. 1 at 11:30 p.m. and Sept. 2 at 8:30 a.m. Taken was a Garmin GPS ($200). 

Theft/Retail Theft

A Toshiba laptop computer and a wireless USB mouse receiver were taken from a desk at the Palatine Public Library, 700 North Ct. on Aug. 29 between 2 pm. and 2:30 p.m. 

Joel L. Delgado, 21, of the 1800 block of N. 1st Ave., Melrose Park, was arrested on Aug. 28 for felony retail theft for taking $557.86 of merchandise past the last point of purchase at Jewel Grocery Store, 45 S. Plum Grove Rd. 

Driving Under the Influence

Jorge L. Genchi-Lorenzo, 24, of the 1500 block of Norway Ln. was arrested for DUI on Sept. 1 at 1 a.m. in the 1200 block of Frontage Rd. Genchi-Lorenzo also was charged with DUI with a blood alcohol content of more than .08, driving without a valid license, improper lane usage and endangering the life of a child. 

Ioan Bodea, 47, of the 8500 block of Central Rd., Skokie was arrested for DUI on Aug. 31 at 10:14 p.m. at Rohlwing Rd. and Palatine Rd. Bodea also was charged with DUI with a blood alcohol content of more than .08, improper lane usage and driving without headlights when required. 

Jesus Trujillo, 26, of the 1200 block of Inverrary Ln. was arrested for DUI on Aug. 31 at 1:48 a.m. in the 100 block of Northwest Hwy. Trujillo also was charged with improper lane usage and improper turn.
