Palatine Police Blotter: Stolen Diamond Rings, Packages Taken from Front Door Step

Criminal Damage to Property

A mailbox was knocked off of a wooden post at a home in the 1200 block of Bedford Ave. sometime between Aug. 20 at 9 p.m. and Aug. 21 at 6 a.m. Damage estimates were not immediately available. 

A window and window frame were damaged, along with a sliding glass door pushed out of its frame in the 200 block of Crescent Ave. sometime between Aug. 19 at 4 p.m. and Aug. 21 at 7:15 p.m. Damages were estimated at $1,000. 

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

A 1999 Plymouth minivan was entered by unknown offender(s) in a private driveway in the 700 block of E. Morris Dr. sometime between Aug. 20 at 11:30 p.m. and Aug. 21 at 5:30 a.m. Taken was a Makita tool bag which contained miscellaneous tools (unknown value) and a black duffel bag with football equipment (unknown value). 

Theft

Two packages delivered to the doorstep of a residential home in the 0-100 block of Helen Rd. were taken on Aug. 21 between 10:47 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Residential Burglary

Unknown offender(s) entered a home in the 1500 block of Lake Louise Dr. and took several items on Aug. 21 between 9 a.m. and 3:40 p.m. Among the items missing were a Dell laptop computer ($1,000), an Acer computer ($1,000) two diamond rings ($8,000) and a Google Nexus tablet ($250). The home's security system was not armed when the burglary occurred. 

Driving Under the Influence

Kenneth R. Balas, 41, of the 300 block of Maple St., Mt. Prospect, was arrested for DUI on Aug. 25 at 2:14 a.m. on Northwest Hwy. and Creekside. Balas also was charged with DUI with a blood alcohol content of more than .08, improper lane usage, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. 

Arturo Rojas, 39, of the 1300 block of N. Turtle Creek Dr. was arrested for DUI on Aug. 25 at 2:45 a.m. on Rand Rd. at Winslowe Dr. Rojas also was charged with DUI with a blood alcohol content of more than .08, driving without a valid license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol. 

Ignacio Martinez-Sanchez, 39, of the 1400 block of Commons Dr., Wheeling, was arrested for DUI on Aug. 26 at 1:05 a.m. in the 1500 block of N. Rand Rd. Martinez-Sanchez also was charged with DUI with a blood alcohol content of more than .08, driving without headlights when required and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. 

Jerry Trousdale, 47, of the 800 block of S. Dunton Ave., Arlington Heights was arrested for DUI on Aug. 24 at 3:14 a.m. in the 1200 block of E. Dundee Rd. Trousdale also was charged with DUI with a blood alcohol content of more than .08 and improper lane usage.
