Palatine Police Blotter: Resident Scares Off Burglar

The following information was provided by the Palatine Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Jan. 29

A burglary occurred at 1 Renaissance Place sometime between 1 p.m. Jan. 29 and 9 p.m. Feb. 5. Taken was an engagement ring and wedding band valued at $6,200, three men's watches valued at $375, a safe with documents inside valued at $200 and $20 in cash.

A black 2003 Ford Escape was burglarized in the 600 block of N. Lake Shore Drive sometime between 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31 and at 8 a.m. Feb. 1. The vehicle was parked in a driveway and was unlocked. Taken was several dollars worth of coins and a pink backpack that contained a Dell laptop computer valued at $1,700.

Alejandra Almaraz-Vargas, 25, of Palatine, and Juana I. Sandiego-Aguilar, 27, of Palatine, were charged with retail theft after an incident at , 1555 N. Rand Road. Almaraz-Vargas and Sandiego-Aguilar placed items in their purses and jackets and passed the last point of sale without paying.

Feb. 2

A white 2006 Toyota Scion was burglarized in the 1700 block of N. Rand Road sometime between 9 p.m. and 11:35 p.m. Feb. 2. Taken from the vehicle was the face plate of the center console and dashboard and a flat screen monitor. The items were valued at $400. Also taken was a hard drive valued at $150 and a radar detector valued at $60 and various CDs.

Feb. 2

A white Chevy van was burglarized in the 1400 block of N. Winslow Drive sometime between 5 p.m. Feb. 2 and 8 a.m. Feb. 3. Taken from the vehicle were various tools, saws, drills, nail guns and an air compressor. The tools were valued at $2,270.

Feb. 4

Roman Guerrero, 31, of Palatine, was charged with DUI, no valid driver's license, no insurance and improper lane usage after traffic stop at 3:30 a.m.

Feb. 5

A resident in the 100 block of N. Greenwood Avenue reported an attempted burglary occurred at 12:13 a.m. Feb. 5. The resident was in a basement bedroom and saw a flashlight flash into the window well of the home. The resident looked outside and saw someone running away. The resident went outside and found that the covers of both window wells had been lifted off the wells.
