Palatine Police Blotter: Portable Toilet Torched and More

Portable Toilet Torched

A portable toilet was set on fire Aug. 7 at Birchwood Park, 435 W. Illinois Ave.,  sometime between 11 p.m. and 11:21 p.m. Police found the charred remains of a portable toilet. Police stated that there was "virtually nothing" left.

Jamie J. Richards, 32, of Palatine, was charged with driving under the influence Aug. 11 at 3:25 a.m. Police received a call of someone driving the wrong way on Northwest Highway. Officers later located the vehicle in the drive-thru of a McDonald's asleep behind the wheel, police said.

Employee Charged With Theft

Marlene Chavez, 39, was charged Aug. 11 with felony theft and filing a false police report. Chavez, an employee at Cricket Wireless on Dundee Road, reported that she was the victim of an armed robbery. Police checked the surveillance video and determined there was no armed robbery. Chavez was charged with taking $1,245 from the business.

Felony Aggravated DUI

Silver Fuentes, age unavailable, was charged with aggravated felony DUI and driving without a valid license. Police were called to a domestic argument at 10:15 p.m. During the domestic call, police told Fuentes, who did not have a valid license, not to drive. Later police saw Fuentes' vehicle at 1:50 a.m. in the 1300 block of N. Frontage Road.

DUI

Lawrence Salato, 45, of Mount Prospect, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage, and driving with unsafe tires after a traffic stop at 1:28 a.m. near the intersection of Rand and Dundee roads.

Car Burglaries

A vehicle outside a home in the 1100 block of W. Moreland was burglarized sometime between Aug. 3 and Aug. 4. The driver's side window was forced down. Several items were taken from the vehicle including a beige Nike gym bag which had clothes inside, an Apple iPod valued at $200, various CDs, and an Illinois birth certificate.

A blue 2003 Chrysler Town and Country was parked behind a strip mall in the 800 block of Quentin Road when its passenger side window was shattered. The incident happened Aug. 13 sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 11:18 a.m. Several items were taken including a wallet and checkbook.
