Palatine Police Blotter: Man Uses Bolt Cutter to Steal Lawnmowers from Walmart

Uriel Caballero, 36, of Palatine, was charged with DUI, DUI with a blood-alcohol content exceeding .08, illegal transportation of open alcohol, no headlights when required and driving while license suspended after a traffic stop at 12:35 a.m. at westbound Dundee and Rand roads.

Charles David Lewis, 64, of Palatine was charged with misdemeanor retail theft after two lawnmowers were taken from Walmart, 1555 N. Rand Road. According to police reports, at about 11:42 a.m., a witness saw Lewis using a bolt cutter to cut the chains to the lawnmowers in the front of the store and loading them into his vehicle. The witness reported the sighting to store security. After reviewing store footage, police were able to identify Lewis’ vehicle and located it at Wolff’s Flea Market, 1775 N. Rand Road. Lewis had the bolt cutter in his car’s front seat and admitted to taking the lawnmowers and said he already had sold them for $50 each. Police were able to locate one of the lawnmowers that was purchased at the flea market and returned it to the store.

A 2012 Hyundai Hatchback was burglarized between 9:30 p.m. June 10 and 11 a.m. June 11 in the 700 block of East Whispering Drive. The vehicle was unlocked. Taken were a digital camera valued at $500, a Brunswick black bowling ball bag, a Columbia black bowling ball bag, three 15-pound Storm bowling balls, a Columbia 15-pound bowling ball and pair of black and white bowling shoes.

A vehicle in the 700 block of East Morris Drive was burglarized between 9:30 p.m. June 12 and at 5 a.m. June 13. The vehicle was unlocked. Taken was $46.

A 2004 Toyota Sienna was burglarized between 8:30 p.m. June 12 and at 5:45 a.m. June 13 in the 100 block of North Elmwood Drive. The vehicle was unlocked. Taken was a gray iPod nano.

June 14, 2012

A 1997 Acura Coupe was burglarized between 8 a.m. and 5:44 p.m. in the 1100 block of Randville Drive. The locked vehicle was parked in a parking lot and the driver-side front window was shattered. Taken was a Pioneer CD player/navigation system valued at $500.

Fernando Taz-Sanchez, 34, of Palatine was charged with DUI, DUI with a blood-alcohol content exceeding .08, driving while license suspended, speeding and illegal transportation of alcohol after a traffic stop at 1:35 a.m. at southbound Frontage and Dundee roads.
