Palatine Police Blotter: iPad Recovered Through iCloud Service

The following information was provided by the Palatine Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

March 16

Eurofresh, 130 W. Northwest Hwy., had $328 stolen after two men and a woman performed a quick change scam on a store cashier between 5:32 and 5:45 p.m. While one man and the woman distracted the employee, the second man asked to have a large bill exchanged for smaller ones. He pocketed the extra money after confusing the cashier as to how he wanted the change returned to him.

A home in the 900 block of West Wood Street was burglarized sometime between 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. When the residents returned home, they discovered that a drawer from a jewelry box left on the bedroom dresser had been removed. Taken were four rings values at $400. It is unknown as to whether anything else is missing. The door leading from the house to the garage was left unlocked and the sliding patio door was left unlocked.

A home in the 1000 block of North Thackeray Drive was burglarized between 9:15 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. The kitchen window was pried open. Closets and a jewelry box were left opened. Taken was costume jewelry with an unknown value.

March 28

A 2008 brown Hummer was burglarized sometime between 8 p.m. March 27 and 7:30 a.m. March 28 in the 1100 block of East Olde Virginia Road. There were no signs of forced entry and the owner was unsure whether the vehicle was locked. Taken were $30 and a pair of sunglasses with an unknown value.

A 2001 Ford Escape was burglarized sometime between 9 p.m. March 27 and 9 a.m. March 28 in the 800 block of North Clark Drive. The vehicle was parked in the driveway and was left unlocked. Taken was a backpack with books inside, USB flash drives and two bowling balls marked “DL” and “ML.”

March 31

A black 2002 Ford truck’s front windshield was smashed and both the main and rear passenger side windows were completely smashed in sometime between 10:40 and 11 p.m. The vehicle was parked in the 1800 block of Green Lane North. A laptop, GPS unit, radio and various power tools were all still in the vehicle when the owner discovered the damage.

Arturo Tigre, 29, of Arlington Heights, was charged with theft of mislaid property after he took a white iPad that was left in a shopping cart outside of Caputo’s, 2070 North Rand Road. When the victim realized the iPad was missing, the victim accessed its iCloud and located it. Police responded to the report and recovered it from Tigre’s residence. The iPad is valued at $900.
