Palatine Police Blotter: Homeowner Scammed

Oct. 10, 2011

A 1994 Pontiac Bonneville was burglarized in the 1200 block of N. Rand Rd. The vehicle was unlocked at the time. Taken was a Harris Bank debit card and an iPod.

An office building was burglarized in the 100 block of E. Palatine Road sometime between 5:55 p.m. Oct. 18 and 7:30 a.m. Oct. 19. Taken from the first office suite was a Sharp fax machine valued at $150. It is unknown how entry was gained to the office. Taken from the second suite was an HP printer valued at $70, a GE phone valued at $14 and an Epson carrying case valued at $20.

A van pulled into a driveway of a residence in the 500 block of N. Greenwood Ave. between 5 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. The male driver of the van talked to one of the residents of the home about doing landscape work. During the conversation a second man arrived at the home and approached the homeowner.

The second man said he was there because he was going to cut down trees for a neighbor and he wanted to make sure none of the trees were on the homeowner's property.

The homeowner took the second man through the home to the backyard. Later the homeowner realized various valuables and two passports had been taken from a second floor office.

A 2005 BMW was burglarized in the parking lot of Walmart, 1555 N. Rand Rd., between 1:55 p.m. and 2:07 p.m. The driver's side window was smashed. Taken from the vehicle was a Dell laptop computer valued at $900, a GPS unit valued at $99, and a cloth bag valued at $300.

A 1993 Toyota Corolla had both of its driver's side windows smashed in the 800 block of E. Lily Lane.

A 2009 Nissan Altima was burglarized in the 1000 block of E. Evergreen Drive sometime between 6 p.m. Oct. 23 and 8 a.m. Oct. 24. The vehicle was unlocked at the time. Taken was an Apple MacBook computer, a Coach cloth tote bag valued at $350, a 2011-2012 daily planner valued at $20, and an application for a village vehicle sticker that contained the victims debit card number. Also taken was miscellaneous school supplies.

A 2001 Chevy Prizm had its passenger side front window smashed between 9:30 p.m. Oct. 23 and 6:25 a.m. Oct. 24.

A theft occurred at Gators Wing Shack, 1719 N. Rand Rd., between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The victim left her purse on a stool in the business. When she returned it was gone. The leather purse was valued at $80. The purse contained $6 in cash, debit and credit cards.
