Palatine Police Blotter: Garbage Can Blaze, Virginia Lake Gets Marked Up

Criminal Damage to Property

A patrol officer observed a garbage can on fire in Mallard Park, 720 S. Mallard St. on July 4 at 12:49 a.m. The contents of the can had recently been burned and the plastic molding around the can melted. Damage estimates were not immediately available. 

A black marker was used to mark up a number of areas at Virginia Lake School property, 925 N. Glenn Dr. sometime between July 3 at 11 p.m. and July 5 at 6 a.m. Unknown offender(s) drew on the building, playground equipment, portable toilet and an electrical box. Damage estimates were not immediately available. 

The rear entry door frame was damaged at an apartment building at 800 E. Lilly Ln. sometime between July 5 at 6 p.m. and July 7 at 7:19 p.m. Police say 'brute force' was used, and $200 in damage was caused. 

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

A Garmen Nuvi GPS and two blue Ryobi Sawzall power tools were taken from a 2000 Kia SUV from a parking lot in the 1500 block of N. Winslowe sometime between July 1 at 3 p.m. and July 2 at 10:48 a.m. The GPS was in the windshield, and the power tools were left in the back seat. The interior of the vehicle also was ransacked. 

Theft

A Tamron Di-II wide angle lens ($499) was removed from a locked hotel room at the Holiday Inn, 1550 E. Dundee Rd. sometime between June 30 at 8 a.m and July 1 at 8 p.m. Items that were untouched in the hotel room included a laptop computer and an Apple iPad. 

A dark green Trek mountain bike was taken from the front porch of a home in the 100 block of N. Rohlwing Rd. on July 7 sometime between 6:08 p.m. and 7:08 p.m. The bike was unlocked and unattended at the time of the theft. 

A bag of tools, clothing, bicycles and a CD collection were taken from a storage locker at Public Storage, 1350 E. Dundee Rd. sometime between June 29 at 11 p.m. and July 5 at 10:50 p.m. The victim contacted management about having the lock replaced when it was found damaged and inoperable. When the victim returned to the unit and found a new lock in place, the personal property was gone. 

Attempted Residential Burglary

Two window screens were removed from two rooms of a first floor apartment unit in the 600 block of E. Constitution Dr. on July 6 between 2:30 p.m and 7 p.m. The resident was not home, and entry was not gained to the apartment. The window screens were found on the ground near the windows. 

Driving Under the Influence

Joy L. Jacoby, 55, of the 600 block of Arbor Circle, Lakemoor, IL., was arrested for DUI on July 4 at 12:47 a.m. in the 1000 block of Norhtwest Hwy. Jacoby also was charged with improper lane usage. 

Jerry Hollingsworth, 25, of the 6000 block of Hampton Dr., Carpentersville, was arrested for DUI on July 5 at 12 a.m. in the 100 block of E. Dundee Rd. Holllingsworth also was charged with speeding, illegal transportation of alcohol, DUI with a blood alcohol content of more than .08 and possession of Cannabis.

Jesus Sanchez, 38, of the 1900 block of N. Jamestown Dr., Palatine, on July 7 at 1:45 a.m. in the 800 block of E. Dundee Rd. Sanchez also was charged with improper lane usage.
