Palatine Police Blotter: Fire in Men's Bathroom, Stolen Airbag at Car Dealership

Criminal Damage to Property

Two individuals reported finding two rolls of burning toilet paper in the McDonald's bathroom, 275 W. Northwest Hwy., on March 20 at 1:40 p.m. The toilet paper rolls were extinguished; a plunger and baby changing station also were burned. The damage is estimated at $200 and the incident remains under investigation.

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

A victim reported the unknown offender(s) shattered a rear window of a 2002 Toyota in the 1300 block of E. Inverrary Ln. sometime between March 21 at 10 p.m. and March 22 at 5 a.m. Police believe the damage was done by two large pieces of asphault and estimates on the value of the damage were not immediately available.

A victim reported that unknown offender(s) dented and scratched a 2007 Chevy in the 1100 block of N. Sterling Ave. sometime between March 22 at 6:30 p.m. and March 23 at 10:30 a.m. Police found 15-20 golf ball sized pieces of broken concrete at the scene. 

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

A victim reported a number of items were stolen from their unlocked 2006 Ford in the 400 block of S. Hale St. sometime between March 19 at 4 p.m. and March 20 at 6:32 a.m. Taken were CD's, an Iphone charger, personal paperwork, a USB charger and a radio/Iphone adapter. Values on all the stolen items were not immediately available. 

A victim reported $1 in change was stolen from her unlocked 2004 Buick in the 300 block of N. Schiller St. sometime between March 19 at 6 p.m. and March 20 at 12 p.m. The center console and glove compartment were ransacked. 

A steering wheel airbag (unknown value) was removed from an unlocked 2012 Chevrolet Traverse at Grossinger Chevrolet, 151 E. Lake Cook Rd. sometime between March 18 at 5 a.m. and March 19 at 10 a.m. It is unknown if the vehicle was an employee's car or a dealer car. 

Theft

Michael A. Muscarello, 47, of the 1100 block of Randville Dr. was arrested for Theft of Lost/Mislaid Proeprty in the Walmart parking lot, 1555 N. Rand Rd. on March 12 at 5:30 p.m. A victim reported that her purse (valued at $30) which contained $40 in cash, a checkbook, keys and her driver's license were taken from her shopping cart after she unloaded her purchases and left the store. Loss prevention captured the theft and the offender's vehicle on video. 

Driving Under the Influence

Maryrose Valerugo, 22, of the 5500 block of W. Henderson St., Chicago, was arrested for DUI on March 19 on southbound Rand Rd. at the 1500 block of N. Rand Rd. Valerugo was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Any Other Drug or Combination of Drugs, Improper Turn, Driving Without Headlights when Required and Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
