Car Thief Busted, Excrement Smeared on Vehicle

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

Two vehicles were burglarized in the 200 block of W. Fairfield Ct. in the driveways of two townhomes sometime between Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 25 at 4 a.m. A wallet, checkbook and U.S. currency was taken from a 2007 Ford parked at one townhome. A backback, phone charger and an adaptor were taken from a nearby 2007 Volkswagen parked in another driveway.

Shortly after the incident, Winnetka Police contacted Palatine Police to report that identifying materials taken from the Ford were on the person of Daniel B. Vences, 21, of the 800 block of Old Willow Rd., Prospect Hieghts. Vences was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle and theft. 

A Samsonite brief case valued at $100 and a U.S. passport were taken from a currently unidentified vehicle parked in a strip mall at the 1200 block of E. Dundee Rd. on October 24 between 1:15 p.m. and 1:50 p.m. The victim reported he was unsure if he locked the car. No damage was observed.

Vandalism

A victim reported that feces was smeared on the front windshield and passenger side of his Pontiac Grand AM, parked in the 2300 block of N. Old Hicks Rd. sometime between Oct. 26 at 10 p.m. and Oct. 27 at 8 a.m. There are no suspects in custody. 

Driving Under the Influence

Ken Catelain, 58, of the 200 block of S. Clubhouse Dr., Palatine, was charged with driving under the influence on Oct. 26 at 5:41 p.m. Police observed Catelain crashing into a Hyundai and a Cadillace parked in the parking lot at 900 S. Plum Grove Rd. He was charged with DUI, having an uninsured motor vehicle and driving with a BAC of .08 or more. 

William F. Thee, 53, 5100 block of N. Normandy Ave., Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence in the 100 block of N. Northwest Highway on Oct. 19 at 11:33 p.m. The faces additiona charges of improper lane usage, having an uninsured motor vehicle and driving with a BAC of  .08 or more.
