The following information was taken from Palatine Police reports:

Failed Burglary Attempt

The window of a blue Chevy SUV was broken out sometime before 7 a.m. on Aug. 25 at the 1200 block of Winslowe Drive.

Inside the locked vehicle was a large flat screen TV covered by a towel in the back seat. In an attempted burglary, someone broke out a window of the SUV but unable to get the large flat screen out of the vehicle, the TV was left behind and nothing was taken from the vehicle.

Residential Burglary, Apartment Ransacked

An apartment at the 500 block of E. Spruce Drive was ransacked during a burglary that occurred sometime between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Aug 25.

The victims returned to their apartment to find the back door forced open. The living room and bedroom had been ransacked and several things were reported missing:

  • Small safe containing money - $1,500
  • Gateway laptop - $700
  • Xbox 360 - $350
  • Video games - $100
  • Kindle Fire - $250
  • Nikon camera - $250
  • Miscellaneous jewelry – value to be determined

Dog finds Stolen Purse before it’s Reported Missing

A purse was stolen from a black Mazda sedan parked on the street at the 1200 block of E. Evergreen Drive sometime between midnight and 8 a.m. on Aug. 25.

Out for morning walk, a woman noticed her dog sniffing a purse that was in the grass. The woman picked it up and found a wallet with ID cards inside. The woman called police who used the ID cards to track down the victim, a woman who lived in the neighborhood where the purse was found.

The victim told police she left her purse in between the front seats of her unclocked car overnight. Two credit cards, $20 and an Illinois Driver’ License were taken from the purse.

Man robbed at McDonald's

Just before 6 p.m. on Aug 26, a man was robbed as he ordered dinner inside a McDonalds.

Seated in a booth at the McDonalds at 1576 N. Rand Road, the victim left his laptop, backpack and cell phone at the table to order food, when he returned to the booth his $400 Samsung Galaxy cell phone was gone.

Surveillance footage showed a Hispanic male grab the phone from the table and exit the restaurant with another subject.

11 Mailboxes Smashed

In about 30 hours, 11 different wooden mailboxes were smashed near Palatine High School. The criminal property damages occurred sometime between 1 a.m. on August 24 and 5 a.m. on Aug. 25.

Cannabis Arrest

Matthew D. Kreutzer, 27, of Palatine was charged with misdemeanor possession of cannabis after an officer noticed a vehicle stopped in the southbound lane at the 1200 block of N. Williams Drive just before 7 p.m. on Aug. 24.

The officer observed two subjects walking alongside the vehicle before they jumped into the car. When the officer approached the vehicle smelled a very strong smell of cannabis.

DUI Arrests

Steven Gamache, 51, of Palatine was charged with DUI, DUI with blood-alcohol above .08, improper lane usage, failure to wear a seatbelt, and uninsured motor vehicle after a traffic stop at the 1000 block of E. Dundee Road at 12:23 a.m. on Aug. 25.

Anjelica Ramos, 46, of Palatine was charged with DUI, DUI with blood-alcohol above .08 and improper lane usage after a traffic stop in the area between Route 14 and Baldwin Road at 12:19 a.m. on Aug 24.
