Palatine Police Blotter: Convertible Top Slashed, Storage Locker Breached

Criminal Damage to Vehicle
The convertible top of a 2000 Chrysler was slashed while it was parked in a lot in the 700 block of E. Pennsylvania Dr. on June 29 between midnight an 11:30 p.m.
Burglary to Motor Vehicle
A Dell laptop computer was taken from the victim's 2012 Kia sedan in the 0-100 block of Country Club Ct. sometime between June 29 at 10 p.m. and June 30 at 7:45 a.m.
Theft
A storage unit was broken into at the Public Storage Facility, 1385 E. Dundee Rd. sometime between June 6 at midnight and June 29 at 4:30 p.m. An unknown subject damaged the lock on the unit and gained entrance, then took a 19-inch flat panel computer monitor, two XBOX 360 game consoles and a 32-inch flat panel Samsung TV. Loss estimates on the stolen items were not immediately available.
Driving Under the Influence
John A. Murphy, 31, of the 1100 block of Highland Ave., Joliet, was arrested for DUI on eastbound Northwest Hwy. at Quentin Rd. on June 30 at 1:30 a.m. Murphy also was charged with improper lane usage and failure to use a signal when turning.
Donald W. Whittaker, 45, of the 700 block of Happfield, Arlington Heights, was arrested for DUI on northbound N. Frontage Rd. at E. Dundee Rd. on June 25 at 12:55 p.m. Whittaker also was charged with failure to signal when required.
