Palatine Police Blotter: Car Thefts, Arrest Reports and More

Laptop and Designer Bag Stolen from Car

Parked in a residential driveway at the 2200 N. block of Old Hicks Road, a 2011 Toyota sedan was burglarized on Thursday, Sept. 13. The victim reported sometime between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. an unknown offender entered the vehicle and took a MacBook Pro laptop, valued at $3,000 and a Reed Krakoff purse, valued at $1,100. Both items were left in the backseat, hidden underneath a diaper bag. 

Another Catalytic Converter Stolen

Parked on the first floor of the Village Parking Garage at 251 W. Colfax, the catalytic converter was stolen from a 2004 Toyota SUV. The theft occurred sometime on Tuesday, Sept. 11 while the victim was at work. Part of the exhaust system, the catalytic converter was sawed off the vehicle, it is valued at $1,875.

Car Burglarized at Midtown Athletic Club

Left in the opening of the driver’s side door of a 2008 silver Land Rover, a wallet containing $800 cash was stolen Sunday, Sept. 16. The theft occurred in the parking lot of Midtown Athletic Club at 1760 N. Hicks Road sometime between 10 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. Miscellaneous credit cards, a driver’s license and social security card were also in the wallet, along with the $800 in cash. The victim did not remember if the vehicle had been locked or not.

Wallet Stolen from Vehicle

Just after midnight on Sept. 11, a brown leather wallet containing miscellaneous credit cards was taken from the center console of an unlocked Lexus sedan parked on the 100 S. block of Pine Street.

Bicycle Theft

On Tuesday, Sept. 11, sometime during the school day, a 7 speed black Rahleigh bicycle was stolen from the backyard of a home on the 200 S. block of Plum Grove Road.  Bike is valued at $300.

Mailbox Smashed

Just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11 a mailbox was smached, broken down at the post on the 800 S. block of Brockway Street. Mailbox valued at $100.

Arrest Report

18-year-old Jonathan J. Berhens of Palatine was arrested for unlawful possession of cannabis (5 grams) and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Near Plum Grove and Palatine Roads an officer pulled Berhens over and cited the teen for illegal squealing of the tires, speeding and blowing a stop sign. Berhens was stopped at 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, with consent to search the vehicle the officer found cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

Dominic X. Glover of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl got pulled over just before 6 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the 1800 W. block of Northwest Highway. The 25-year-old male was charged with DUI, improper lane usage and driving with a suspended license.

Daniel K. Hutpner, 37, of Palatine was charged with DUI, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08 and speeding after a traffic stop at the 200 S. block of Rohlwing Road just before 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16.
