Palatine Police Blotter: Black Marker Graffiti on White Fence, Mail Box Struck

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

An unlocked 2013 Audi sedan was entered by unknown offender(s) parked in an apartment garage in the 1900 block of Hidden Creek Dr. sometime between Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 2 at 7:30 a.m. Taken was a gray Dell laptop computer ($1,000), a black 32 gb Apple iPad ($599) and $30 in cash taken from the victim's wallet - which was left in the car. 

The driver's side window of a 2001 Volkswagen sedan was smashed in the 900 block of W. Panorama Dr. in an apartment parking lot on Aug. 2 between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. A black Power Acoustic/Nesa DVD player car stereo was taken ($200). 

A 2013 Ford sedan was entered by unknown offender(s) in the 1700 block of N. Emerald Bay sometime between Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. and Aug. 5 at 8:20 a.m. Items taken from the glove compartment included a Garmin GPS unit ($100), iPod AM/FM transmitter ($80) and an iPod charger cord ($45).

Theft

A credit card holder containing various credit cards and identification were taken from the Buehler YMCA, 1400 W. Northwest Hwy. on July 30 between 11 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. The victim told police the belongings were left unattended while in the family locker room. 

A victim's garage was entered by unknown offender(s) and two bicycles were stolen in the 700 block of N. Whitcomb Dr. sometime between July 30 at 10:30 p.m. and July 31 at 12:14 p.m. The missing bicycles were described as a gray/orange Schwinn bicycle ($80) and a red mountain bike with black lettering ($150). 

Criminal Damage to Property

A wood mail box was damaged by unknown offender(s) in the 600 block of W. Revere Ln. on Aug. 1 between 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. The mail box was struck by an unknown blunt object. Damage estimates were not immediately available. 

Graffiti in black marker was drawn on a white fence in the 400 block of E. Amherst St. on Aug. 4 between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. 

Julie J. Waryck, 22, of the 26000 block of Highland Dr., Mundelein was charged with criminal damage to property at Walmart, 1555 N. Rand Rd. on Aug. 4. Waryck allegedly damaged $327.97 of merchandise packaging on store property. 

Driving Under the Influence

Andrew M. Manley, 29, of the 800 block of S. Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, was arrested for DUI on Aug. 1 at 12:38 a.m. in the 1600 block of N. Baldwin Rd. Manley also was charged with aggravated DUI (drugs-felony), aggravated driving with a revoked license, violation of an order of protection, resisting a peace officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper lighting, uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. 

Eric J. Salander, 28, of the 3400 block of E. Chandler, Phoenix, AZ, was charged with DUI at Lake Cook and Hicks roads on Aug. 4 at 3:57 a.m. Salander also was charged with DUI with a blood alcohol content of more than .08, and improper lane usage.
