Palatine Police Blotter: $3,300 Jewelry Stolen from Home; Car's Entire Windows Shattered

July 9, 2012

Mayara S. Santos, 26, of Schaumburg, was charged with local ordinance retail theft after taking items from T.J. Maxx, 1311 N. Rand Road, and leaving without paying between 5:20 and 5:30 p.m. Store security spotted Santos putting bras, shirts, shoes purses and dinnerware into a paper bag in her shopping cart. Santos paid for items in her cart, but not the items in the paper bag. The items in total were valued at $205.89.

A home in the 1500 block of North Pendleton Court was burglarized sometime between 11:30 a.m. July 9 and 1:40 a.m. July 13. The victims were out of town and turned off their alarm system as their realtor was showing their house to potential buyers. When they returned home, they discovered several drawers in the kitchen, living, bedroom, bathroom and closet were left open. The kitchen window also appeared to have been damaged from being pried open. Various jewelry items were taken, including a watch and a wedding ring. Some of the stolen jewelry was valued at $3,360, while the rest of it had an unknown value.

John M. Olles, 52, of Palatine, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, DUI and DUI BAC above .08 at 10:07 p.m. at North Quentin Road and West Northwest Highway.

A home’s mailbox in the 0-100 block of West Aldridge Avenue was damaged sometime between July 15 at 4 p.m. and July 16 at 8 a.m. The mailbox was knocked from a post. The damage amount is unknown.

A beige 2002 Ford sedan parked in an apartment parking lot in the 1900 North block of Green Lane North was damaged sometime between 1-9 a.m. The windshield, four rear windows, rear windshield and rearview mirrors were all shattered and there was a dent in the hood of the vehicle. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle and the damage amount is unknown.

A bike was stolen from a home in the 500 East block of Wilson Street sometime between 9-9:30 p.m. The bike, a blue children’s Roadmaster with orange stripes, was left unsecured and was valued at $100.
