Palatine Police Blotter: Two Big Thefts at Parking Garage and More

The following information was provided by the Palatine Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Gateway parking garage: Parts of two exhaust systems stolen from vehicles

 The catalytic converter, part of the exhaust system that is located underneath the vehicle was sawed off of two vehicles parked at the Gateway Center parking garage at 251 W. Colfax.

According to police one owner returned to their white Toyota SUV parked in the garage, started it up and noticed a loud noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The owner drove to a repair shop where it was determined the catalytic converter had been sawed off, valued at $1200. The theft occurred sometime between Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

The first theft of a catalytic converter at the Gateway Center parking garage was reported on Aug. 28 when a silver Lexus SUV parked in the garage was targeted and part of the exhaust system was removed.

Lottery Tickets and Beer Stolen from Car

A vehicle parked outside of a home in the 200 block of S. Ashland Avenue was burglarized sometime between Sept. 1 and Sept. 2. The victim reported unknown subject(s) entered the vehicle and took a number of items including three lottery tickets, two bottles of cologne and a six-pack of Bud Light. According to police it is unknown if the lottery tickets are worth any value.

Theft at Falcon Park

A man reported a theft at Falcon Park at 2185 N. Hicks Road around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29. According to police, the victim left a yellow Nike bag on the bleachers near the basketball court while he played. When the victim returned to the bleachers, the bag and its contents, a pair of shoes, an IPod and a blue Samsung cell phone were gone.

Bike Stolen from Train Station

A bicycle locked to a bike rack at the Palatine Metra Train Station at 137 W. Wood Street was stolen sometime before 10 a.m. on Thursday Aug. 30. The gray Raleigh 10-speed mountain bike is valued at $100, the value of the lock which was also taken is unknown.

Cars Burglarized

A black Lexus convertible was burglarized in the parking lot of Midtown Athletic Club at 1760 N. Hicks Road. On Tuesday Aug. 28, sometime between 2:00 p.m. and 2:50 p.m. the passenger side window of the vehicle was broken out. A radar detector value at $500 and prescription sunglasses also valued at $500 were taken from the car. Police noted bank checks and several other personal items left in the vehicle were not taken.

An unlocked truck parked in the owner’s driveway was burglarized sometime between Aug. 30 and Aug. 31. A Yamaha guitar valued at $142 and a Makita job-site radio valued at $100 were taken from the truck.

Woman pulled out of driveway, charged with DUI

Pamela C. Flannery 50, of Palatine was charged with DUI, DUI with blood-alcohol above .08 and failure to yield exiting a private drive.  Flannery pulled out of the driveway and caused a car accident involving no injuries at the 100 block of W. Route 14 just after 6 p.m. on Sept. 1

Felony DUI

Collazo Osbaldo, 47, of Palatine was charged with DUI, DUI with blood-alcohol above .08, felony DUI, misdemeanor-obstructing identification, improper lane usage, driving with a suspended license and uninsured vehicle. Police stopped Osbaldo just before 6 p.m. on Aug. 30 at the 700 block of W. Dundee.

DUI

Nathan A. Smith, 27, of Hoffman Estate was charged with DUI and speeding after a traffic stop at 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 29 at the 1200 block of W. Algonquin Road.
