Palatine Man Uninjured After Plane Veers Off Runway

Palatine resident Michael Higgins was attempting to land in Lake in the Hills when the plane lost power and veered off the runway.

A Palatine man was uninjured when the plane he was flying lost power and veered off a runway at Lake in the Hills Airport.

The incident occurred at 10:40 a.m. Saturday, June 4. The Lake in the Hills Police Department and Crystal Lake Fire Department responded to the scene.

Authorities said that they located a Mooney M20R piloted by Palatine resident Michael Higgins near the middle of the airfield, off the edge of the runway. Also in the aircraft was Krzystof Mariusz, an instructor pilot from Chicago.

Both men were treated at the scene. The Lake in the Hills Airport was temporarily closed while the area was inspected for damage, a press release states.

The accident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
