Palatine Man Faces Felony Charges After Scuffle with Officer

A Palatine man allegedly attempted to disarm an Arlington Heights police office during a scuffle following a traffic stop Tuesday.

Arlington Heights police have charged Samuel Lopez Jr., 31, with aggravated battery of a police officer, attempting to disarm a police officer, and possession of a controlled substance.

Arlington Heights Commander Michael Miljan said the incident began at around 5 p.m. after a traffic stop on Dundee Road near Route 53. During the traffic stop, Lopez exited his vehicle and fled. The officer gave chase.

Miljan said the officer attempted to use a stun gun a struggle over the weapon ensued. Lopez was unable to pry the stun gun away from the officer. Neither individual was injured.

Miljan said that officers found more than 15 grams of what is believed to be cocaine in Lopez vehicle.
