Palatine Man Accused of Sexual Assault Wrote Victim’s Family
The Daily Herald reports in Cook County Jail, a Palatine man accused of sexual assault wrote to his alleged victim's family.
Held at Cook County Jail on charges of sexual assault and child pornography, Candido Chavez-Barreto, 44, of Palatine wrote a letter to his alleged victim’s family.
According to the Daily Herald, Chavez-Barreto wrote to the family of the complaining witness, a 16-year-old girl who is a relative of Chavez-Barreto’s alleged victim to ask for their forgiveness and request the return of his property.
The Daily Herald reports prosecutors asked to increase Chavez-Barreto’s $200,000 bond because the 44-year-old violated an order from a judge that he have no contact with the complaining witness or her family.

Chavez-Barreto of Palatine was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and child pornography. According to the Daily Herald, a relative of the alleged victim found a cellphone memory card containing images of the underage girl and Chavez-Barreto engaged in sexual activities.
